Xiaomi Mi3 sold out in India within 5 seconds

Chinese handset maker Xiaomi, which debuted in the Indian smartphone market earlier this month, today said it sold out its stock of its Mi3 smartphone within 5 seconds of going on sale. This is the second lot that was put on sale today at 2 pm in the afternoon on online marketplace Flipkart, which is exclusively selling Xiaomi’s handsets in India.

About 100,000 customers had registered to buy the Mi 3 smartphone, priced at Rs 13,999, on Flipkart's website. Xiaomi and Flipkart said that till date 20,000 devices have been sold through the online retailer.

Industry insiders say Xiaomi had about 10,000 devices up during the first sale, which were grabbed instantaneously by consumers a week ago. A day earlier, Xiaomi had asked customers to log on to the website and stay ready for the sale. Xiaomi will hold its next sale on August 5 and customers will have to register again for a chance to buy the phone, the company added on its Twitter page.

Xiaomi Mi3 is a dual-SIM device that comes with a 5-inch full HD display. Mi3 is powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM. It supports and runs on Android 4.3 JellyBean operating system.

It features 13 megapixel primary camera with dual led flash and 2 megapixel front facing camera.  The handset supports micro SD which can be used for expanding the memory up to 64 GB in addition to the 16 GB storage available on the smartphone.

Connectivity features of the handset include 2G, WiFi, 3G,  microUSB 2.0 and NFC.  It has a 3,050mAh battery, and Xiaomi claims that the smartphone can deliver talk time of up to 21 hours on 3G networks.
