Micromax Canvas A1 Android One review and specification

This year Google has announced Android One program at Google I/O which is the biggest hope of company to connect millions of Indians to its ecosystem. In India Google has done a partnership with three companies(Karbonn, Micromax and Spice) to make Android One smartphone and Micromax Canvas A1 is the Micromax's first smartphone based on the Android One Program. We have reviewed Canvas A1 and here is what we found out when we got our hands on it.

Design : The design and build quality of Canvas A1 is what you would expect from an inexpensive smartphone. It looks like other smartphones of Micromax series. There are no creaks or unwanted crevices in the body and the phone is relatively light. There is an Android One logo towards the lower end of the rear flap, and it may be used by the company for more devices in the future. The rubberised removable back panel attracts and feels smooth to the touch and adds to the solid feel. The phone's front is pure black and it suits for different age group.

Display : With a 4.5-inch WVGA display, Canvas A1 is not so impressive because 854x480 pixels IPS display is disappointing, especially at this price. The display doesn't use any protection system such as Gorilla glass or Dragon tail which is mostly used in smartphones. It could be easily scratched if you are not careful. It looks bright and clear under sunlight. The colors of display are vibrant and icons are sharp.

Camera : Canvas A1 has a 5 megapixel camera as Moto E but the quality is much better than Moto E's camera. The camera's result are good. In device the Google camera app offers various features like Lens Blur, Photospheres, Panoramas, along with HDR mode, exposure adjustment, WB adjustment and more.

Performance: As a budget smartphone, Canvas A1 shows a high performance. The phone runs on 1.3 GHz Mediatek quad core processor and 1 GB of RAM. It runs on stock Android, but it performs like no other device that Micromax has ever sold in this range. The stock UI is smooth and snappy and app response times are minimal.

Battery: It can deliver talk time of close to 6 hours and standby time of about 160 hours on a single charge. So, you can listen to the FM radio, chat or play games for hours without exhausting the battery.
