Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto's email account hacked

Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto appears to have received a hacking attack against at least some of his online accounts, with the hacker offering to sell the anonymous developer’s personal information for 25BTC, or around £7,000 ($11,000).

On September 8, BitcoinTalk administrator Michael Marquardt, aka 'theymos', started a new thread untitled 'satoshin@gmx.com is compromised'. He wrote:

"Today I received an email from satoshin@gmx.com (Satoshi's old email address), the contents of which make me almost certain that the email account is compromised. The email was not spoofed in any way. It seems very likely that either Satoshi's email account in particular or gmx.com in general was compromised, and the email account is now under the control of someone else. Perhaps satoshin@gmx.com expired and then someone else registered it."

The hacker, who's name is “Jeffrey,” claims to have information of Nakamoto that could be used to unmask his identity. According to Wired when they asked him how he managed to take control over the satoshin@gmx.com email address that Nakamoto had used for some of his correspondence, he wrote: “The fool used a primary gmx under his full name and had aliases set up underneath it. He’s also alive.”

Jeffrey was also able to hack Nakamoto's other online accounts, including his P2P Foundation's, where he posted:

"Dear Satoshi. Your dox, passwords and IP addresses are being sold on the darknet. Apparently you didn't configure Tor properly and your IP leaked when you used your email account sometime in 2010. You are not safe. You need to get out of where you are as soon as possible before these people harm you. Thank you for inventing Bitcoin."

The last time a message was posted from Nakamoto’s P2P Foundation account was in March, when Newsweek claimed that a California man named Dorian Nakamoto might be the mysterious creator of bitcoin. Back in March, the account had posted simply: “I am not Dorian Nakamoto.”(Dorian Nakamoto also denied that he was bitcoin’s creator.)
