Apple refreshes Macbook Pro with Retina display lineup and speedier chips

Apple on Tuesday refreshed its MacBook Pro with Retina display line of laptops, bringing faster Intel Haswell processors and, for the 15-inch models and entry 13-inch model, double the standard memory.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display will now have 8GB of RAM as standard across all variants. Earlier, the 256GB and 512GB storage variants came equipped with 8GB of RAM, while the entry-level 128GB model had 4GB of RAM. These refreshed laptops will be powered by faster Intel Haswell processors (2.6GHz Core i5, and 2.8GHz Core i7).

In terms of pricing, the 128GB variant will now be available for Rs 94,900 (down from Rs 99,900), 256GB will be available for Rs 109,900 (down from Rs 114,900), and the 512GB variant will be available for Rs 129,900 (down from Rs 134,900)

On the 15-inch front, two models are offered: one with 2.2GHz, quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of memory (up from 8GB) and 256GB of storage, and the other with a 2.5GHz i7 processor, 16GB of memory, 512GB of storage and an Nvidia GeForce GT 750M discrete graphic chip.

As far as pricing is concerned, the 256GB variant will now be available for Rs 144,900 (down from Rs 149,900), while the 512GB variant sees a massive price drop from Rs 199,900 to Rs 179,900.

This update to the MacBook Pro line comes ahead of the release of OS X 10.10 Yosemite, which is scheduled for release this fall, and brings a number of new features to users, including much closer integration between Mac and iOS devices.

"People love their MacBook Pro because of the thin and light, aluminum unibody design, beautiful Retina display, all day battery life and deep integration with OS X," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. "The MacBook Pro with Retina display gets even better with faster processors, more memory, more affordable configurations and a free upgrade to OS X Yosemite this fall."
