Maruti Suzuki launches CNG variant of Celerio for Rs.4.68 Lakh
The Celerio with its much marketed AMT automatic has already turned into a big success for Maruti Suzuki. India’s largest carmaker has now introduced the CNG variant of the hatchback and christened it Celerio Green. The new variant of the Celerio has been priced at Rs 4.68 Lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi). The Celerio Green is available only in the VXi manual transmission trim.
MSI Vice President (Marketing) Manohar Bhat said the idea of introducing a bi-fuel CNG variant was to strengthen the brand and offer more fuel choices to the customer.
"We are confident that factory fitted iGPI technology on the Celerio Green will bring all the benefits to customers such as smooth drive and hassle-free maintenance and help us in expanding the Celerio brand," he added.
It delivers best-in-class fuel efficiency of 31.79 km/kg in CNG mode, the company said. Powered by the factory fitted iGPI technology (intelligent Gas Port Injection) the Bi-fuel Celerio Green is claimed to deliver an astounding fuel efficiency of 31.79 km/kg in CNG mode. This should cut down the fuel costs of prospective owners massively in cities where the green fuel is available.
The iGPI technology, has dual ECUs which ensure delivery of optimum fuel quantity to engine, leading to consistent performance along with improved fuel efficiency. Maruti Suzuki claims that the Celerio Green has undergone rigorous tests during the course of development and scores high on safety and reliability.
Power for the Celerio CNG comes from the same 1.0-liter three-cylinder K-Series engine. The engine produces 68 PS and 90 Nm of torque in petrol mode and 59 PS and 78 Nm of torque in CNG mode. A switch on the dashboard allows the driver to change fuel modes.
Maruti says that the tank features a leak-proof design and an integrated harness for added safety. The suspension of the hatchback has been modified as well to offset the extra load at the rear.
