Maruti Suzuki Celerio with Automatic Transmission at Rs.4.9 Lakhs

With the new Maruti Suzuki Celerio launch, the Japanese company is all set to steal the show at the upcoming Indian Auto Expo, 2014 and to prove its supremacy all over again as the leading carmaker in India. The first car to feature an Automated Manual Transmission – AMT in India, Celerio will be launched on 6th February. Maruti official now reveals that apart from this, it’s price will not be significantly expensive, as compared to manual option.

In a recent development, it has emerged that the Maruti Suzuki Celerio AMT prices could start at INR 4.9 lakhs, which will make the upcoming model the cheapest automatic car in the country. This revelation comes from the good folks at Autocar India, who have even listed down some of the features that the car will be equipped with. As per them, the AMT variant of the Celerio, which is the production model of the A:Wind, will sport equipment and features like dual-tone interiors, steering mounted controls and a double-DIN system with Bluetooth connectivity.

"We thought if we could address these issues, we will be addressing a good segment of consumers who are looking for automatic transmission in mass segment," Maruti Suzuki India Chief Operating Officer (Marketing and Sales) Mayank Pareek said. 

He said nearly 25 per cent of consumers who come to the company's showrooms enquired about cars with automatic transmission but the conversion rate was very poor once they found those issues related with such vehicles. 

"With Celerio, which has been developed at an investment of around Rs 570 crore, having our EZDrive technology, we have addressed those issues," Pareek said. 

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio will be powered by the same 1.0 litre, three cylinder, K10 petrol engine that can also be found under the hood of Alto K10, WagonR, AStar and the Estilo. While the engine has a max power of 67bhp and a claimed FE of around 21 kmpl. for the AStar, it is expected to have slightly more power for the soon-to-be-launched Celerio. The Maruti Suzuki Celerio has an ARAI certified fuel mileage of 23.1 kmpl.
