CNN Social Media Accounts hacked by Syrian Electronic Army

On Thursday CNN’s Social Media Accounts were hacked by Syrian electronic Army. In these Accounts CNN’s Facebook and twitter account and Political Ticker were hacked.

The posts were quickly deleted but not before several outlets had the opportunity to take screen grabs of the anti-CIA and anti-Al Qaeda tweets.

Around 5:45p.m. EST, CNN's account began tweeting out messages such as

‘Syrian Electronic Army Was Here... Stop lying... All your reports are fake!’

‘Obama Bin Laden the lord of terror is brewing lies that the Syrian state controls Al Qaeda.’

On CNN’s “Security Clearance” blog, NBC News reports, a post read "US declares state of national emergency, State department reportedly out of reach."

On their official Twitter page, the electronic army wrote that the attack was in retaliation for a CNN report 'aimed at prolonging the suffering in Syria'.

'CNN used its usual formula of present unverifiable information as truth, adopting a report by Qataris against Syria [sic]. Instead of any actual journalism, CNN turned into a loud horn calling for the destruction of the Syrian state.

This month it attacked the social media properties of Skype,Microsoft's Internet phone unit, and several other Microsoft social media pagesand blogs, including the Microsoft Office Blogs site. The SEA charged the company with selling customer data to governments, presumably a reference to disclosures last year by former U.S. National Security Agency contractor, Edward Snowden, that Internet companies were allegedly providing access to real-time customer data to the agency.

In August, an attack purportedly by SEA on Melbourne IT, an Australian domain registrar, affected the websites of The New York Times, Twitter and other top companies.

The attack on CNN is in line with earlier attacks by the SEA, which were primarily focused on issues related to the civil war in Syria.
