Google Play Newsstand now available in India and other countries

Google Play Newsstand’s paid subscriptions have finally gone live in India. The same was announced just yesterday after the Android One announcement and Google seems to have finally opened its paid subscription doors for the same today.

If you haven’t used Newsstand before, the service simply worked as an aggregator for news sources from different websites that brought news together (depending on your choice) on various topics. With paid subscriptions now active, Indian Android users can now purchase subscriptions from a barrage of both local and some international magazines as well.

The content even includes news sources (local and foreign) that you can subscribe to and say good bye, to those incomplete articles that showed up earlier.

Google had said that it has currently partnered with 30 Indian publications for the content such as NDTV Gadgets, NDTV, NDTV Movies, ABP Live, GQ India, ESPN and more. Users get a free trial of New York Times subscription for 60 days.

At present, all the Indian news and magazine content, and some international news content such as Forbes Now, Reuters, Bloomberg Television and more, is free for all Android users in the country.

The Google Play Newsstand store also includes the international magazine content in different categories. For this month, Google is also offering 50 percent discount on the selected international magazines under a 'Special launch offer'.

Users can download Play Newsstand by visiting the Play Store. The App requires 2.3 Gingerbread or above for its operation.
