Flipkart launches Digiflip Pro XT 712 tablet for Rs 9999

Online retailer FlipKart on Thursday unveiled its first Android tablet under the Digiflip brand in the country. Priced at INR 9,999, the tablet is targeted to the entry-level buyers. According to FlipKart, the tablet offers shopping benefits of over Rs.5,000 and free eBooks worth Rs.2,000.

The seven-inch tablet comes with a metal body and has a thickness of just 9.2mm. This means it will weigh just 285 grams and will be 10 per cent thinner than others tablets in the class.

The 3G dual-SIM tablet will be powered by  1.3 Ghz quad core MediaTek processor with 1GB Ram. The 16 GB internal memory can be expanded by 32 GB using SD cards. The device will run Android Jelly Bean.

The tablet will also come with offers worth Rs 5,000 for those using Flipkart apps to shop on the device. There will be a Bluetooth earpiece free with the tablet as well as a 50 per cent discount on the cover.

Amazon was perhaps the first mainstream online retailer to provide its own hardware with its Kindle Fire tablet. However, Amazon offers a forked version of Android, which does not have access to the Google Play store and only offers curated content from Amazon's various content services and its Android app store.

The FlipKart tablet is not straddled in any such way, though it appears to be a low-cost solution at first glance, acting as a gateway for users to buy stuff off FlipKart and Myntra, which the company recently acquired.
