Motorola Moto E Review and Specification
The Motorola Moto G has been such a huge success since its launch in 2013 (it's Motorola's best-selling smartphone of all time) that the company has decided to follow it up with another low-cost handset, the Moto E. Continue reading for our Moto E review. The price of this Moto E is just of 6999 Rs and it is easily available at Flipkart. The Moto E was out of stock since some days from today it is available again. It is available in 2 colors i.e. white and black. The accessories of this phone are also easily available at Flipkart.
Display : The Moto E has a decent display on the handset. It features a 4.3-inch TFT LCD display with a resolution of 540x960 pixels and a pixel density of 256ppi. Motorola has also mentioned that the display is scratch resistant, and for sure it is since the screen is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 which is currently known to be one of the toughest scratch-resistant protections. A low-priced phone with a Gorilla Glass 3 displays seem to be one of the first in the category.
Design : The Moto E follows the same design language of its elder siblings, the Moto X (Review) and Moto G. This is evident in the dimpled chin on the curved back which features the Motorola logo. There are a few subtle differences, though. At its thickest point, the Moto E measures 12.3mm, making it a bit fatter than the Moto G. Also, at 142g it weighs slightly more, and definitely feels heavier in the hand. Fortunately the heft is reassuring considering its compact size. The body feels sturdy, and we get the impression that it will be able to withstand years of use. Despite being predominantly plastic, the Moto E feels premium, almost making us wonder how Motorola could afford to price it so low. Our only complaint is that the rear has a rubbery feel to it which could get oily after prolonged use. The rear cover is interchangeable, and nine colours will be available, all of which look pretty good.
Camera : The Motorola Moto G's biggest weakness was its camera, and the Moto E's 5-megapixel snapper, alas, is no better. After spending a few days photographing everything in sight, we were far from satisified with the results. The big problem is that the Moto E's camera is fixed-focus, so it's hopeless at capturing crisp, close-up subjects. When we did manage to take a sharp picture, the Moto E's white balance and metering often got things badly wrong, and every image we snapped looked smeary and over-compressed. We were even less impressed with the phone's video capabilities. With resolution limited to 854 x 480, footage lacks detail, and the phone does a terrible job at adjusting exposure and white balance on the fly. Move from dark scenes to lighter ones and you can see the camera visibly stepping from one exposure level to the next. Suffice it to say, the Moto E's camera is good for the occasional snap, but little more, and the camera app itself is sluggish and unresponsive, making it a chore to take photos.
Performance : The Moto E is built using a mid-range Snapdragon 200 chipset. The chipset features a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz and coupled with an Adreno 302 graphics processor and 1GB or RAM. The chipset is powerful enough to run Google’s latest Android operating system, KitKat v4.4.x. However, the stock operating system could possibly get overloaded with too many applications installed on it later. Motorola has promised that the handset will receive all future updates of the Android operating system, and we assume it would also support the upcoming Lollipop operating system (Android’s next operating system version – either v4.5 or v5.0).
Interface : A major complaint among detractors of Android is the fragmentation of software versions across different devices. In that regard, it is extremely heartening to note that Motorola is constantly striving to bring the latest and the best version of Android to its smartphones. The Moto E runs Android 4.4.2 (KitKat), and Motorola has promised that it will get at least one future upgrade. This is another first for any Android smartphone in the sub-Rs. 10k segment. Motorola leaves the Android software largely untouched, and so we are treated to the taste of unadulterated KitKat (pun intended): clean home screens, a lock screen with a camera shortcut, a whole collection of Google apps, Google Now, and on-screen navigation buttons which hide when you play games and watch videos.
