Renault/Dacia Duster reaches global sales of 1 million units within 4 years

India has become the fourth biggest market for Renault's compact sports utility vehicle Duster globally, with sales touching 85,974 units in the country, since the launch of the vehicle in 2012. Within four years of its launch, Duster has achieved the milestone of 1 million unit sales worldwide. Duster is sold under Dacia and Renault brands globally.

The SUV is available for sale in 100 countries and is produced in five factories across the globewhere it is assembled. These five factories are located in various parts of the world including, Pitesti located in Romania, Curitiba situated in Brazil, Envigado in Colombia, Moscow in Russia and our very own Chennai.

In an article of Overdrive, Arnaud Deboeuf, entry programme director, Renault Group, say about the Duster, “Duster is a truly global success story. With Renault branding, it perfectly meets the demands of our international customers and is contributing to Renault’s expansion in emerging markets. At the same time, the Dacia-badged version sold in Europe and our Mediterranean Basin markets has succeeded in attracting a new clientele to the brand thanks to the styling and genuine all-terrain capability it delivers for an affordable price. Duster is definitely a model that is winning us new customers.”

Renault has been careful with its strategy for each of the markets that the Duster is sold in. The French car maker has often released special edition versions of the SUV to cater to the specific needs of the regions that it is sold in. Russia, for example, got a cold climate version of the Duster. Brazil has had an ethanol fuel program running for over 37 years now. As a result, flex-fuel engines, or engines that run on alternative fuels, are famous in the country. A flex-fuel version of the Duster was introduced there for this reason.

Global sales for the Duster reached 376,000 in 2013, and, with the Duster growing in popularity, it may not take another four years for Duster production figures to hit two million.
