2015 Hyundai Sonata showcased at New York Auto Show 2014

The new 2015 Hyundai Sonata, which debuts the new Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language, has been showcased at the 2014 New York International Auto Show. The Sonata, now in its seventh generation,is Hyundai’s bread-and-butter family sedan, now sharper and packed with more features for 2015. The four-door sedan retains a sloping, coupelike roofline that helped define its last major redesign nearly four years ago. A sharper front end, and a more pronounced rear stance, give the ’15 Sonata a leg up, in terms of styling, over some of its more mainstream competitors. The styling differences mask the fact that the Sonata has grown to become a “large” car, rather than midsize, with a new chassis, to boot.

The interior receives a refresh, too, in addition to a styling update that introduces a control layout like that of the 2015 Genesis luxury sedan. An optional, touchscreen navigation system classes up the cabin, And, as on the pricier and more luxurious Genesis, the trunk can be opened remotely – without the waving of arms or feet – via the proximity key.

Under the hood, The 2015 Sonata maintains the engine sizes found in the current model, with minor revisions for the sake of refinement. A 185-horsepower, four-cylinder engine is standard, while a turbocharged, 245-horsepower engine is available exclusively on the Sport model. Both are paired to 6-speed automatic transmissions, with no manual transmission available. If our experience with the current Sonata is any indication, we’re confident that both engines will, once again, provide enough power to match the competition.

As far as engine specs are concerned, the US model gets a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine and a 2.0-litre turbo version. Interiors are certainly top-class with a special attention on ergonomics. Hyundai calls its interior design principles based on safety, intuitiveness and simplicity. There are several safety features added that includes electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, traction control, ABS, tire pressure monitoring system, projector headlamps as standard, while HID headlamps are available as an optional feature. We expect the same features for the Indian market as well.
