Hyundai Xcent Sedan launched in India at Rs. 4.66 Lakh

Hyundai on Wednesday launched the Xcent, a sedan at a starting price of Rs 4.66 lakh. The Xcent compact sedan was first unveiled at the Auto Expo 2014 that held in February. It comes with the automatic gearbox options in petrol variants.

Xcent, which has been launched in both petrol and diesel variants has been priced between Rs 4.66 lakh and Rs 7.38 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). While the petrol variant prices range from Rs 4.66 lakh to Rs 6.47 lakh, the diesel variant prices are from Rs 5.56 lakh to Rs 7.38 lakh.

The Xcent is based on the Grand i10′s platform, the Dzire on the Swift’s platform and the Amaze on the Brio’s platform. All three cars measure under 4 meters in length with the Hyundai and Maruti measuring an identical 3,995 mm.

In terms of wheelbase, the Xcent measures 2,425 mm, the Honda at 2,405 mm and the Dzire has the longest wheelbase at 2,430 mm. However, the Amaze is much more spacious than the Dzire thanks to its clever packaging and we will wait until we drive the Xcent to comment about its interior space.

"Developed with the best of Hyundai Motor's world class technologies, Xcent will create a new benchmark in terms of quality, design, space, features and driving pleasure in the compact sedan segment. We have invested extensive effort in competitively pricing Xcent to offer excellent value," said B S Seo, Managing Director and CEO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd.

The Hyundai Xcent comes with both a petrol and a diesel engine. This gives the car a much wider reach and its prospect customers a model to choose for a specific need. The petrol engine - the 1.2-litre Kappa 2 is already a proven performer be it driveability or fuel economy. It is decent refined too.

Hyundai has tweaked the power on the diesel engine. It now develops 1PS more and, more importantly, has 20Nm pf torque more than the Gand i10. With an ARAI certified efficiency figure of 24.4kmpl, this 1.1-litre, three cylinder should be popular among buyers looking to clock high mileage. It works well in the city and it isn't too bad on the highway even though its top end performance isn't exactly great. It does have a bit of vibration at idle but once on the move the diesel engine is neither too loud or vibey.

  1. The Hyundai Xcent ride quality is one of the best in its segment. Tuned to be on the softer side of things, it soaks up bumps quite easily
