New Piaggio Vespa Scooter will launch on March 4
Piaggio has recognized a strong potential in the Indian two-wheeler market for its premium scooters and is gradually expanding its product portfolio in the domestic market. After the LX125 and the Vespa VX (an LX125 with a front disc brake and new colour options), the recently unveiled Vespa S saw a silent release into the market.
The Vespa S scooters have started arriving at dealerships and bookings are already on. A dealer we spoke to confirmed the development and said that the on-road price of the new Vespa S is Rs 82,868 in Pune. Deliveries will start immediately. The Vespa VX, on the other hand, costs approximately Rs 4,000 less (Rs 78,390).
The new Vespa S will be made available in 4 colours- Orange, White, Red and Matte Black. What set the Vespa S apart from the Vespa VX are the changes in design. The Vespa S has a squared headlamp, while the Vespa VX has a round headlight. The Vespa S also have mirrors in different shape and repositioned tail-light. Other changes are a powder coat painted three-spoke alloy wheels and a different instrument panel. So, all the aforementioned changes give the Vespa S a more premium and retro look.
On the mechanical front, a dealer confirms, the S houses a similar 125cc, four-stroke single-cylinder and air cooled engine as already seen on the LX125 and VX, with a peak power output of nearly 10bhp. Similar to the LX125 and VX scooters already in India, the S also receives a CVT transmission.
A Vespa signature monocoque steel chassis, single-side hydraulic front shock absorber and a rear monoshock will be seen on this new scooter. Braking will be managed by 200mm front disc and a 140mm rear drum brake available as standard.
