Huawei unveils 'hybrid' Talkband smartwatch

Huawei unveiled ‘TalkBand B1’, a wearable fitness tracker that also lets users receive phone calls via a Bluetooth earpiece at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

CEO Richard Yu presented the TalkBand B1 at the company's launch press conference. Connected to a smartphone via bluetooth, the device functions as both a fitness tracker and a phone -- a detachable bluetooth headset adds voice and text functionality. It also improves upon existing fitness trackers by housing a USB port in its wristband for charging.

The TalkBand does not appear to have touchscreen functionality but can be controlled via an accompanying app on your smartphone. The TalkBand currently only works when synched to the MediaPad M1, but Huawei CEO Richard Yu said future versions will work with all its devices and across many other Android smartphones.

It will be IP57 water and dust resistant, a curved 1.4-inch OLED, and its wristband will also double up as a USB connector. It’s definitely an interesting device and for those looking forward to getting their hands on it, you can expect to pay €99 for it. It is made of sweat-resistant materials, weighs 26g and is 14.6mm thin.
The TalkBand will be available in black, grey, white, yellow, blue and red in China from March 2014, and in Japan, the Middle East, Russia and Western Europe from Q2 2014.
