Google is working on 1,000 times faster Internet Connection(10 gigabits-per-second)

Google is working on 10Gbit/sec broadband, ten times faster than its current fibre project in Kansas City. During the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet conference on Wednesday, Google executive and Chief Financial Officer Patrick Pichette said that the tech giant aims to boost network speed to ten times as fast as Google Fiber, according to a USA Today report.
"We want to push the boundaries," he said, speaking at the conference. "For the next generation of internet, we said there’s 1Gbit/sec. After 1Gbit/sec, it’s 10Gbits/sec. We’re working on 10Gbits/sec because we know 1Gbit/sec works."
"Why wouldn’t we make it available in three years?" he added. "That’s what we’re working on. There’s no need to wait."
Google launched its Google Fiber service in Kansas City in July 2012, promising 100 times the speed of an average US internet connection.

The average Internet speed for U.S. users is about 9 megabits per second. In Kansas City, Mo. and Kansas City, Kan., Google already delivers Internet at speeds of 1 gigabit (about 1,000 megabits) per second. At 10 gigabits per second, Google's futuristic Internet connections would blaze past anything the average U.S. consumer has experienced.

Pichette said that the research is part of Google's long-term "obsession with speed;" a next-generation Internet that allows for stable connections supporting data-intensive applications -- which could, in turn, boost adoption of software as a service. While few consumers would need 1Gbps connections at home -- let alone 10Gbps -- network resources are already being swallowed by software, Web-based gaming, cloud computing and the streaming of audio and video.

Google is not the only one working on this. Last month, researchers in Britain announced they achieved the "fastest ever" broadband speeds in a test that hit 1.4 terabits per second. Pichette has experience in this area. From early 2001 until July 2008, he was an executive at Bell Canada, which offers a fast, fibre-optic internet service to homes in that country.
