Google acquires sound based security start-up "SlikLogin"

This weekend Google revealed that they’ve acquired SlickLogin, a three-man company that aims to revolutionise the password. The Israeli internet security start up firm has hit gold just 6 months after its inception on September 9, at TechCrunch Disrupt.

It is created by Or Zelig, Eran Galili, and Ori Kabeli, all former members of the Israeli Defense Force cybersecurity unit. SlickLogin uses high frequency sounds from a user’s smartphone for two step verification.

The concept of SlickLogin is simple. If you were to visit a site that supported SlickLogin’s technology all you’d need to do in order to access whatever account you’re trying to access is to hold your phone upto your computer and just like magic you’ll be granted access.

Using SlickLogin, you can log into any SlickLogin password enabled website/account/database by using your smartphone. Just Install SlickLogin on your System/website and SlickLogin smartphone app on your phone. Then, just place your phone closer to the computer's speakers to simply log in. Hence, typing the password is no more required.

Google was the first company to offer two-step verification for free, and SlickLogin said it share’s Google’s belief “that logging in should be easy instead of frustrating, and authentication should be effective without getting in the way.”

“[Google is] working on some great ideas that will make the internet safer for everyone,” SlickLogin said on its website to announce the acquisition. “We couldn’t be more excited to join their efforts.”

With SlickLogin, instead of receiving a text message and relaying that information to the computer your smartphone emits a coded sound that the computer records and verifies. For the person signing in, as long as their smartphone is nearby the second step of the verification process is meant to be invisible.
