Mozilla Firefox OS tablet specification leaked

Mozilla has started testing its browser-based operating system on tablets and has developed its own tablet prototype. Mozilla’s Asa Dotzle has detailed the specifications of the first Firefox OS powered tablet and from the looks of it the tablet is definitely a low-end model aimed at highly budget-conscious markets.

Foxconn involvement in the development of Firefox OS has been confirmed since last summer, when the company hired 3,000 software engineers to contribute to the operating system created by Mozilla.

Mozilla has “escaped” on the internet its first picture with the new Firefox OS tablet. The creation of the first batch of Firefox OS tablets was made by the Chinese from Foxconn.

The first Firefox OS running tablet will be powered by a quad-core 1GHz Allwinner CPU that uses the ARM Cortex A-7, with a PowerVR SGX544MP2 GPU. Also 2GB of RAM is used for smoother performance.

It comes with an on board memory of 32GB along with a microSD slot for memory expansion. The tablet comes with a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing snappers which is quite competitive if compared to other tablets available in the market. But sadly, this tablet only features Bluetooth and a WiFi 802.11b/g/n support. The tablet which measures 266mm x 170mm x 9.7mm draws its energy from a 7000mAh battery.

Firefox OS tablets have modest specs, but the operating system was exclusively designed to provide a good user experience with minimal resources, so it’s just like top of the range tablets. The first commercial tablets with Firefox OS could be launched later this year or in the first half of 2015.
