Micromax unveils Dual-Boot Laptab with Android and Widows OS
India’s leading handset maker Micromax has introduced its first hybrid device LapTab, a dual boot Android and Windows 8 tablet at CES 2014. This is the first Intel powered tablet to have a dual operating system.
"Aptly designed for multitasking across operating platforms, users would need to simply reboot the device and select the alternate option to switch from Windows to Android and vice versa," said Micromax.
Rahul Sharma, Co-Founder, Micromax said, "Today, we are taking the next leap in raising the innovation bar globally, with the introduction of LapTab. Over the past few years, we have been witnessing a growing trend of increasing consumer demand for two operating systems in one device, which offers a blend of great PC like productivity in a tablet like form factor for seamless consumption. The Micromax LapTab fulfills that consumer need by giving them access to the world's first dual-boot tablet. Combining functionality and style, the LapTab further builds on our promise to constantly empower our users with superior technology that directly addresses their needs."
He further commented, "As Micromax looks to expand footprints across global markets, we would continue to fulfill our promise of democratizing technology for people around the world by making it more affordable and accessible. We would be unveiling an array of innovative products across international markets in next six months for which Micromax is known for."
The LapTab is powered by Intel's Bay Trail-M, one of the first devices to be announced with that chipset. Micromax says the use of the Intel Celeron N2805 processor, clocked at 1.4GHz, will result in long battery-life. The tablet runs both Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and Windows 8. However users will have to reboot the tablet to switch between the two Operating Systems.
The device has a 10.1-inch screen with 1280x800 resolution. It also comes with 2GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage space. It has a 7400 mAh battery, which should ensure better batter performance. The device also hasa 2MP front camera with an ambient light sensor but it doesn't have a rear camera.
It also supports microSD slot with 64 GB. In terms of connectivity the LapTab supports Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi for internet connectivity. Micromax has not yet announced a cellular model till now. The LapTab also has something called the 'transleeve' which can be used as a cover or a stand for the wireless keyboard packed with an additional 230 mAh battery.
LapTab will be available across e-commerce portals and retail stores starting early February, 2014.
