Ubislate 7ci, the cheapest tablet of the world on sale in U.S. & U.K.

Datawind began selling three of its 7-inch devices in the United States on Monday. The least expensive model, the UbiSlate 7Ci, a 7-inch, Android-powered tablet, will sell for $37.99. The tablets can’t match the technical specifications of the latest Apple or Samsung tablets but are designed for a price-sensitive consumer who may have been priced out of the tablet market in the past.

One day, Datawind could offer the Aakash Tablet 2 as low as $20, according to The Washington Post. For now, consumers will have to settle for the $38 (or 30 Euro) version available in both the United Stated and the United Kingdom beginning Monday.

"My customer says, 'I want something that's good enough and functional enough and gives me a good experience; I don't have to pay an arm and a leg for it,' " Datawind CEO Suneet Singh Tuli said of a device he categorizes as the "innovation of good enough," according to the Post.

The UbiSlate lineup features three models. The base-line one is the 7Ci. It houses a single core Cortex A8 processor clocked at 1.0GHz, 512MB of memory, 4GB of storage expandable up to 32 gigs, VGA camera, Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, 180 minutes of battery and a 7-inch display resolving at 800×480 pixels.

The second one is the 7C + EDGE, which fundamentally has the same specs as 7Ci, but with a 3-hour larger battery and mobile data connection as well, beside Wi-Fi. Oh, it also is a phablet, as the company itself describes it, capable of making phone calls. The 7C + EDGE will set you back £69.99.

The premium model of the UbiSlate line is the 3G7 phablet, packing a dual-core Cortex A7 chip clocked at 1.0GHz, 1GB of RAM, 8GB internal storage, VGA front camera and 2MPix back-facing sensor, 3G GSM and Android 4.2.2. Screen resolution and the battery is the same as the 7C+EDGE. The 3G7 retails for £129.99. All three tablets feature a micro SD and Mini-USB port.
