The year 2014 saw some major security birches, venerability issues and all this have brought security into limelight. Today the world’s perception about digit security has totally changed as financial data is among the most targeted information in recent times. We bring to you the Top # threats of 2014.

1. BlackPOS (The Salesman)

It targets customer of major banks, takes credit and debit card data from point-of-sale (POS) systems running Microsoft Windows systems.
Creator: Antikiller Hacker
This was designed to bypass firewall software, 207Kb in size and crimeware kit cost around $ 2000.
Functioning: Uses RAM scraping to grab card data from the memory of the infected POS device. Exfiltrates collected data to a compromised server, and then uploads it to a FTP.
Some popular victims were customers of major US banks, such as Chase, Capital One, Citibank, Union Bank of California and Nordstrom FSB Debit.

2.CRYPTOLOCKER  (The Thief)

The thief was first spotted in September 2013, Prolific Ransomware Trojan using encryption to lock computer files and demanding the user to pay a ransom to decrypt them.
More than 500,000 users, mostly from the US, UK and Canada got victimized by this.

3.  KOLER (The Policeman)

KOLER is the one you really need to be aware of, it was first reported in May 2014. Posing as a valid video player offering premium access to pornography, KOLER gets downloaded automatically.
KOLER’s victims were mostly from Europe.
Functioning: drive-by Trojan infects a machine, restricts the user from accessing mobile home screens and displays a bogus message posing to be from the national police service. It claimed that the user was using illegal content over the internet and asked for sum to escape prosecution.
