Sony's new E-Paper FES watch is now official


As we have reported that Sony is working on a e-paper display smartwatch. Now company has revealed that it is called "FES watch" and has been put up on Japanese crowdfunding site Makuake.

The FES watch is the project of Fashion Entertainments which describes itself as a start-up project but according to the Wall Street Journal it is a subdivision of the Sony.

The company put this project to the crowd funding site because they really want to test the demand of the project.

“We hid Sony’s name because we wanted to test the real value of the product, whether there will be demand for our concept,” a spokesman told to the paper.

FES watch is purely fashionable. The watch's face and band both made of e-paper which can changes its its appearance depending on the user’s gesture. The FES Watch has 24 design variances in total and these can be selected manually.

While there is no information about the official release of the product, the Japanese crowdfunding site's page notes that the supporters will be able to pre-order the smartwatch and receive it after May 2015.

According to the WSJ, Sony's e-paper idea is not limited to the watches, as the team is also developing e-ink-based bow ties, hat accessories or paper holders.
