Yotaphone gets price cut in India, now available on Flipkart for Rs 17,999

YotaPhone with dual-displays was launched in India last month exclusively on Flipkart. While the phone was initially launched for Rs 23,499, it has got a price slash, and is now available on the e-commerce site for Rs 17,999.

The "always-on" Android smartphone sports a liquid crystal display on one side and an e-paper display on the other.

The YotaPhone’s USP is its dual displays — an LCD primary display and an E-Ink secondary display. The latter is always on and can be used to show notifications, weather, social media updates, calendar reminders, as well as reading e-books.

To recap on the specifications, the YotaPhone flaunts a 4.3-inch HD 720p display at the front, and a 4.3-inch (640×360 pixels) E-Ink display at the back. Powering the smartphone is a 1.7GHz Snapdragon 400 dual-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM, and also included is 32GB internal storage.

Also featured are 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 1-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 1,800mAh battery, which the company claims is seven-ten times better than other smartphones. On the software front, the smartphone runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

The E-Ink display of YotaPhone also enables users to see notifications like messages, calls, reminders, appointments, weather etc even when the smartphone display is not turned on.

The technology also preserves smartphone battery power. Yota Devices claims that in reading mode, YotaPhone has 7-10 times the battery life of other smartphones.

The phone features the company's patented software that allows information to be shared and used between YotaPhone's two screens. A number of applications also come preloaded on the YotaPhone.
