Microsoft launches Lumia 535 budget windows phone at Rs 9,199

Microsoft has launched the Lumia 535 smartphone in India for Rs 9,199. It’s the first Lumia smartphone to sell without the Nokia brand name. It will hit store shelves from November 28.

The Lumia 535 features an all-plastic body and will come in bright attractive colours, now synonymous with Lumia phones. The 5-inch display has a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels and uses Gorilla Glass 3 for sturdiness. The Lumia 535 has 5MP camera in both front facing and rear.

It runs the latest Windows Phone 8.1 on a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor coupled with 1GB RAM. Other hardware specifications include 8GB storage, microSD slot for expansion (up to 128GB supported) and a 1900mAh battery. You also get the usual 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, accelerometer, ambient light sensor, GPS and proximity sensor.

"With access to the best services right out of the box at a price they can afford, we believe the Lumia 535 is an ideal solution to offer young India," Ajey Mehta, Managing Director, Microsoft Devices India, said at the launch.

Microsoft said that Lumia 535 owners with Vodafone subscriptions will get a 500MB mobile Internet pack for two months - the offer is notably valid only for subscribers currently not active on any Internet pack.

Microsoft has also teamed up with Jabong, allowing Lumia 535 users to get Rs 6000 discount over a period of three months using the Windows Phone Jabong app. The list of freebies also includes e-books worth Rs 1,500 on Flipkart and two months of BoxTV subscription.

With this smartphone launch, Microsoft has also announced providing two packages across all Lumia smartphones (from Lumia 520 to Lumia 1530). They will be available with an option of an additional cloud storage of 1TB on OneDrive for business at a price of Rs. 799 per annum.

This will translate into a storage space for more than three-lakh songs or 3,000 full length feature films, the company said. Additionally, the Office 365 'Business Premium' package will be available to all Lumia buyers at Rs. 2,499 per annum, it said.
