Ford India recalls 3072 units of Fiesta sedan in India

US auto major Ford has decided to recall 3,072 Ford Fiesta in India. These cars were manufactured at the company's manufacturing facility at Maraimallai nagar, near Chennai.

"We have initiated a Field Service Action to correct a product concern on 3,072 Ford Fiesta TDCi vehicles," the company said.

The vehicles being called back have been manufactured between October 2010 and December 2011.

The company said it is writing to customers and asking them to contact their local Ford dealer so that "a new design, waterproof Glow Plug Control Module can be installed free of charge".

"This is a proactive, voluntary recall action to ensure customers' safety and satisfaction and no accidents or injuries related to this concern have been reported," Ford said.

Earlier this month, Toyota Kirloskar Motor had announced recall of 119 units of its sedan Camry, manufactured between March and July 2011 in Japan and sold in India, to rectify a defect in front suspension.

German luxury car maker Audi had also recalled 6,758 units of A4 sedans in the country earlier this month, manufactured between November 2011 and October 2014, to upgrade software in airbag control unit.

Ever since auto industry body SIAM started voluntary vehicle recalls for safety related issues in India in July 2012. Over seven lakh vehicles have been recalled by various manufacturers including Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, Ford Motor Co., Honda Motor Co., General Motors Co. and Nissan Motor Co.
